Learn to sail a dinghy or small catamaran, or learn to sail and crew a yacht, all in one of the world’s premier sailing locations - Australia! Our courses are based in Sydney Harbour and offer a safe and enjoyable introduction to sailing or yachting, making them perfect for beginners or a great way to build on any previous experience. You will be taught by some of the industry’s leading instructors and develop essential skills and knowledge, whether your aim is to charter a yacht with friends, start a new career in the yachting industry, or simply enjoy the challenge of learning a new sport.
Beginner Courses
If you are new to yachting or dinghy sailing, our beginner courses will provide you with a fun and rewarding introduction to the sport. You will work through the first few YA (Yachting Australia) qualifications for either yachting or dinghy sailing which are recognised worldwide. Professional instructors will teach you the basics including: personal safety, boat preparation, equipment selection and maintenance, wind and boat direction, gibing and tacking a small boat, and how to steer. Professional sailing instructors will guide you every step of the way and will ensure you spend as much time on the water as possible.
Improvement Courses
If you already have some experience sailing small boats or yachts, why not join one of our improvement courses and pick up where you left off! On the dinghy sailing course you will learn enhanced skills such as roll tacking, roll gibing and trapeze and spinnaker handling. You will also learn more about your sailing environment including winds, tides and currents as well as how to use tide tables to identify local tidal flows. The yachting course will teach you how to skipper a yacht in inland and sheltered waters, and on short coastal passages in daylight hours, taking full control over the safety and enjoyment of your passengers. This includes preparing the yacht for sea, anchoring, mooring and berthing, as well as learning more complex skills such as navigation, plotting and chart work.
Both courses include internationally recognised qualifications and you will be taught by experienced professional instructors. You can expect to leave the course as a confident sailor with the ocean awareness skills necessary to enjoy sailing or yachting anywhere in the world.

Why in Australia?
Sailing is a really popular sport in Australia and despite a disappointing lack of medals at the Athens Olympic Games, they are still one of the strongest sailing nations in the world. Sydney is at the top of the list of excellent Australian sailing destinations and is an ideal place to learn to sail. With its countless bays, inlets and harbours, Sydney offers you access to a whole variety of different wind and water conditions. Other popular sailing spots include Melbourne in the state of Victoria and the Whitsunday Islands off Queensland’s beautiful sun-kissed coastline. Australia really is the place to learn to sail so get ready to have the time of your life!
What can I do after the programme?
Australia is an excellent country to travel around and the East Coast is a great place to start. Sydney is a bustling, cosmopolitan city with loads to see and do, from climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge to surfing at Bondi Beach, you will never be short of a new adventure! Head north to explore the hotspots of Byron Bay, Brisbane and Cairns, or south to discover Canberra (the capital city), Melbourne and the Great Ocean Road. The size of the country can be a little daunting but transport for travellers in Australia is excellent so if you decide you just can't bear to leave anything out (north, south, centre, east, west), there’s no reason why you can't do it all. The friends you've made during the sailing course will undoubtedly want to travel as well so grab your cork hat, your boomerang and your thongs (all will be explained) and head off around one of the most travel-friendly countries in the world.
