Take a 4WD tour of the salt flats and harsh landscapes of Salar de Uyuni, stopping off at the striking rich, red Colorada Lake. Explore this strange and stunning landscape; the endless, white salt plains are a surreal sight that photograph superbly. This geyser-studded area also provides some great thermal baths to soak in - the perfect end to a day on the plains.

Days 9-10 Sucre

Head to the Plaza 25 de Mayo to mingle with Sucre's well-heeled residents and have a look at the ornate interior of the Iglesia de la Merced. Alternatively, visit Cal Orck'o to see dinosaur footprints estimated to be 60 million years old.

Fly to the steamy lowlands of the Andean foothills and travel to Santa Cruz, a friendly city with arcaded streets, for a final night in Bolivia.

Days 13-14 Pantanal

Cross the border at Corumba, Brazil's frontier town and gateway to the Pantanal, the world's largest wetland area. A vast variety of wildlife call this place home, so keep an eye out for howler monkeys, giant otters, anteaters or even caimans.

Days 15-17 Bonito

The clear rivers are teeming with fish and there are some excellent caves in this area, including one which has an underground lake with sapphire-blue warm waters.

Days 18-19 Iguazu Falls

View the falls from both Brazil and Argentina and marvel at the 270 waterfalls magnificently cascading into a central river.

Sip caipirinhas, snooze in the sun or swim in the beautiful warm waters of this island getaway.
